Atf Form 4 Approval Times - Anyone know of a modern atf oil that replaces the old type a and if so, can they be mixed? Atf+4 is pretty much a dealer item. Transmission in question is a 1954 dual range 4. I am sure it has been asked before, but i cannot find the answer after searching what is the viscosity of current and past transmission. Historically, every atf specification that gm or allison has issued was sent to afton where the di package was developed. From what i understand there is difference and it may not be a good idea to try to substitute atf+3.
